MENTAL DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
Children can also have mental health issues. Mental disorders among children are described as serious changes in the way children typically learn, behave, or handle their emotions, causing distress and problems getting through the day. Among the more common mental disorders that can be diagnosed in childhood are attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and behavior disorders. I’ll be discussing ADHD in today’s post.
You know your kid or another kid in the neighborhood or school who always acts like they’re on a sugar high? That one that doesn’t like to sit down quietly or focus on school work and is always getting into trouble for not paying attention? It could be ADHD. ADHD is a disorder in which a person is unable to control behavior due to difficulty in processing neural stimuli, accompanied by an extremely high level of motor activity. It is the most common childhood mental disorder but it also affects many adults.
Symptoms of ADHD include:
- Self-focused behavior
- Interrupting
- Problems with patience
- Emotional turmoil
- Fidgeting
- Problems playing quietly
- Unfinished tasks
- Lack of focus
- Avoidance of tasks
- Mistakes
- Daydreaming
- Trouble getting organized
- Forgetfulness
So before you give up on your hyperactive child who is always on the go, tag him goat-stubborn, accept that his problem is supernatural, maybe you should schedule an appointment with a therapist.
